i attended the 49th anniversary celebrations of my beloved school today... it took me a year back in time... an excited but unsure kid.. packing bags to leave home for the 1st time... i remember clearly the flight to goa... the pure scenic magic of goa i saw thru the plane window as i landed, the hotel we stayed @ .. the first time i saw my college.. my new home and met my fellow mates, my second family... sleeping thru freshmen orientation (lol.. it was better than the pm's visit though)... tasting mess food for the 1st time (i felt like a rat being poisoned slowly in a cold laboratory far away from the cozy warmth of it's hole -my home).
What hit me even more than the mess food was the serenity , peace and splendour of the campus.. the new hostels with red roofs and neatlawns... the majestic BITS-DOME.. our gigantic auditorium.. Lecture theaters that reminded me of the parliament , quite sound proofed classrooms with green boards and windows with slanting red tiled shades to wash down the rain (modern and new...yet sumthin abt the red tiles reminded me of kerala ... my native land...later on i wud discover plenty of similarities tween goa and kerala)...
I was alloted gh3-276... a lil room with windows opening into our hostels lawn...i went to pavi's and vaish's room( my old psbb mates who r with me in bits)... met others on my corridoor
the next day we selected our time tables
the 1st class i attended was a physics tutorial by Dr Ashish Asgekar.. his longish hair... slitely girlish looks and earring were the 1st things i noticed ( it jolted me into a u aint in school no more kindda mood).. they announced a test can u beat that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! less than a week into campus we wrote our 1st physics test
what i suspected was true unlike school where someppl wanna study and others dont.. in bits every1 is good and almost evry1 wants to learn..ppl went bezerk abt a simple test.. the 1st test was ez.. the rest wudnt be( sigh!! how was i to know)...
they killed us durin our 1st semester with a mini test system .. which means we wud hav tests virtually everyday... so 1st sem was a blurr...
i remember our chemy prof nagaraj kowliki and his weird ways... he kept saying right after every few words.. cos that was the only english word he cud say well.. he was a post doc with a phd in chem but he knew lil chem and even less english... i failed nearly all his tests and got a midsem grade of 'D' in chem ( later worked it to a c)
prob n stat by rajan arora was fun.. he made us work a lot.. but developed a strong understanding of the subject
then there was BJC babu whose thermo lectures wud be virtually empty.. our thermo tutor Mr Sachin Waigaonkar was extremely strict and wud flare up for nuthin.. but he was a good tutor and developed r concepts well.. i still messed up thermo.. but that was entirely my fault. there was this bloke called sk who taught thermo to the other batch .. he did his phd from london and he was pretty sure that we wud all fail thermo no matter wat (unless ofcourse he was ur tutor or @least ur lecturer)
workshop practice was fun (the practical part) i never attended much of the lectures ( dont even ask abt the pathetic tuts by ack .. whu wud jus stare into space) i had fun with my workpieces( dandiya stick, pen stand ( wood n metal), welding, shaper, bookstand,lathe- candle stand etc)
i spent most of my 1st sem getting over homesickness, getting to know ppl and trying ( though failing) to pass tests
somehow finished it with a cg of 6.74
2nd sem ... i am gonna rite abt it tomorrow... i also wanna describe my skool anniversary and mention a few aspects that touched me deeply
for now bed calls.. i wanna be with my granny for a while before i leave
ciao
luv
